Cool Breakfasts

Breakfast is the new eating out experience. Thanks to its fashionable cafes and upmarket coffee shops, Shrewsbury is the perfect place to indulge in a slice of breakfast culture.

Tantalise the taste buds with some of the coolest breakfasts in town. Enjoy a full English with a twist or something completely different!

Bird's Nest Cafe

Bird's Nest Cafe in the Market Hall

The Bird’s Nest

This artisan café, based in Shrewsbury Market Hall, is renowned for its creative flair, gourmet coffee and hipster music (even at 8.30 in the morning)! On the menu is everything from the Nest’s own ‘cool’ version of a full English, served aloft locally baked artisan sourdough, to healthy avocado or Portuguese-style sardines on sourdough toast.

Vegans will love the full Vegan. For sheer coolness try the all-American Elvis Presley – a rocking combination of toasted waffle, scrambled egg, streaky bacon, peanut butter and maple syrup.

Breakfast served from 8.30am to 11am, Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat.

Market Hall, Claremont Street, Shrewsbury SY1 1HQ

Chez Sophie

Chez Sophie's upstairs includes cinema-style seats and board games

Chez Sophie

An authentic little taste of France in Shrewsbury. Run by an Anglo-French couple, Chez Sophie is a traditional crêperie offering freshly made sweet and savoury crêpes and Belgian waffles, fruit smoothies and proper milkshakes in quirky cool surroundings. Children will love the old cinema seats upstairs.

Breakfast can be savoury or sweet, but always yummy. Try Le Petit Dejeuner, served with ham, egg and cheddar cheese, for a crepe version of a full English. Indulge in fresh French and Danish pastries at the weekends. There may also be the odd French lesson to join in too!

Dough & Oil

Shrewsbury’s first city-style urban restaurant and bar serves up unique healthy breakfast bagels and ‘eggs on dough’. Everything is made in-house from local, fresh, quality ingredients and put together with hipster flair and finesse.

Try The Rocky – a breakfast bagel of D&O’s sausage patty, roasted mushroom, egg, avocado, bacon jam and pea shoots or house made granola, lemon curd and fruit with Icelandic or vegan yogurt. D&O is one of only 1,000 independent venues worldwide to have been vetted and approved to serve raved about hot-air roasted Allpress Espresso from world gourmet coffee capital New Zealand.

Lobster Benedict at Loch Fyne Shrewsbury

Lobster Benedict at Loch Fyne

Loch Fyne

Start the day by getting your claws into Lobster Benedict, kippers or a Loch Muffin of smoked haddock and melted Cheddar. Loch Fyne originated on the West Coast of Scotland and now has 29 restaurants around the UK. Loch Fyne sources fresh sustainably sourced fish, much of it from the loch itself.

And if fish is not your thing, enjoy a traditional breakfast with Scottish haggis, pancakes or the likes of Eggs Florentine instead. Luxurious ‘Lobster Benedict’ is a combination of succulent lobster meat, poached eggs and in-house hollandaise sauce on muffin.

Breakfast Saturday and Sunday 9am – 12 noon

Number Four Shrewsbury

Number Four has undergone a major extension, creating a light-filled, open kitchen space upstairs.

Number Four

Number Four has always been known for its great food and now it’s even better for breakfast (lunch or dinner) after a major expansion and chic ‘retro industrial’ make-over.

Breakfast in style with a Bucks Fizz or a Bloody Mary! The breakfast selection includes a standard and a ‘big boy’ full English, a vegetarian full English, eggs any which way – from eggs benedict and royale to poached eggs on toast – and homemade granola. There are vegan options too. Number Four sources from local farms and does its own in-house baking and butchering.

Breakfast served Monday to Saturday 9am – 11.30am
