Improved Shrewsbury Park & Ride service to begin next month

An improved Park and Ride service begins in Shrewsbury on 1st November 2015, with users promised a more reliable and punctual service - and brand new environmentally-friendly buses from November 2017. Following a tender exercise, Shropshire Council has awarded a new five-year contract to manage Shrewsbury's Park & Ride service to Arriva Midlands, the current operator.

The five judges for the inaugural Association for Heritage Interpretation (AHI) Discover Heritage Awards include the University Centre's Dr James Pardoe.

The Magical World of Masks and Puppets comes to Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery

An exhibition from a nationally-important collection of puppets and masks is opening at Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery's special exhibitions gallery on Monday 26th October 2015. The Magical World of Masks and Puppets is a touring exhibition from the Scottish Mask and Puppet Centre, which will appeal to people of all ages.

Quarry play area consultation - have your say

Shrewsbury residents are invited to have their say over the future of the play area within the town's Quarry Park. Shrewsbury Town Council wishes to refurbish the site and has approved a £375,000 cash injection to bring it in line with other play parks, such as Telford.

The new facility will also incorporate the existing paddling pool, which will be transformed into a splash park.

Campaigners who want Shrewsbury's swimming pool to remain in the town have organised a public rally on Saturday 17th October to mobilise and show support for the town centre facility.

Town Council staff nominated for bravery award

Shrewsbury Town Council workers who saved a baby girl from drowning when her pram was blown into the fast-flowing waters of the River Severn have been nominated for a Pride of Shropshire award. James Williams and Andy Hill leapt into the freezing water in February when the six-month old girl's pram was blown away from her grandmother and into the ice-cold water.

First undergraduates share their enthusiasm

University Centre Shrewsbury's first undergraduates have spoken of their excitement to be part of the institution and town as they embark on courses. The students arrived on Sunday 27th September and enjoyed a week of activities to welcome them to Shrewsbury.
