Dates set for Next Year's Comedy Festival

Organisers of the highly successful Shrewsbury International Comedy Festival have announced the dates for next year’s event – extending the Festival length & adding venues in the process.

The Festival (SICFest), which this year provided 15 shows over several venues in town, will take place Thursday to Sunday, 19th-22nd July 2018.

‘Acoustic Adele’ event boosts charity

A special Shropshire concert staged by rising local talent Libby Glinksman boosted a charity by almost £1,400.

The Shrewsbury singer performed at the ‘Tribute to Adele’ evening at the Wightman Theatre in the town recently.

A total of £1,339 was collected for the Breast Cancer Now charity as a result of the event.

Free Mental Health Training morning at The Hive, Shrewsbury

On World Mental Health Day October 10th, The Hive in Belmont, Shrewsbury is hosting a free half day Youth Mental Health Training workshop in partnership with Musical Communities from 9AM – 1PM to coincide with their Mental Health Awareness drop-in afternoon. This workshop is to help provide and support anyone who teaches, works, cares for or lives with young people, including young people aged 16+.

World BBQ competition ace and market butcher team up to serve championship burgers

A world barbecue competition ace is teaming up with his butcher to serve up the championship-winning burgers they have been winning competitions with for the last three years.

Joe Allwood, of Shropshire’s first barbecue competition team Smokin Salop, and William Dodd, of WD Butchers, will be serving the burgers as part of Shrewsbury Market Hall’s late night on Saturday September 30.

Exhibition at RAF Cosford Museum opens in October

The Hive, Shrewsbury, are busy planning an exhibition at RAF Cosford Museum on Sunday 29 October, 1-3pm, Hangar 1. The project ‘Scars of the Unfought Battle’ made possible by National Lottery players, has seen groups of young people explore military aviation crashes across Shropshire, and make short films of their findings.

Sound and vision event to be hosted in town

A Shropshire retailer is hosting a special ‘sound and vision’ evening on September 28.

Acoustic Boutique, one of Shrewsbury’s largest independent shops, has arranged the event from 6pm until 8pm at its High Street store.

The managing director of premium German television company Loewe will be amongst the guests, as well as a representative of leading brand Bose.

Autumnal ‘Wild’ films at The Hive

A ‘Wild’ Autumnal film season is starting at The Hive on Sunday 1 October with a screening of ‘Where The Wild Things Are’ at 4pm.  The Hive is a super friendly venue in Shrewsbury Town Centre, perfect for either a first cinema experience, or a relaxed cinema visit for one and all. 

‘Acoustic Adele’ comes to Shrewsbury

The sound of Adele comes to Shrewsbury this week – in the form of a charity night staged by a rising local talent.

Libby Gliksman will be performing songs by one of the UK’s biggest stars at a show on Sunday, September 24.

The event at the Wightman Theatre in The Square will also feature powerful ballads by other songwriters and all proceeds from tickets will go to the Breast Cancer Now charity.
