Where to eat vegetarian in Shrewsbury

With meat-free lifestyles becoming more mainstream, we have collated a selection of restaurants to give you a flavour of Shrewsbury’s most exciting vegetarian hang-outs.

We’ve all tastes catered for here, with vegetarian food on offer from across the globe – whether it’s a French crêpe, a bowl of noodles or authentic Chinese dumplings, Shrewsbury can provide!

For more vegetarian options visit our Eat and Drink Vegetarian Options page.

Chez Sophie, Mardol Head

Word has it that the veggie crepes are worth seeking out at this French crêperie-café-bar run by an Anglo-French couple with a passion for crêpes, Belgian waffles & shakes. It’s known also for its hipster décor and probably the best selection of draft and bottled world beer in Shropshire, hand-picked by the cafes resident beer sommelier. All crêpes are freshly prepared and there are regular limited edition specials. All sweet & savoury options are available gluten free – their vegetarian crêpe, with freshly-prepared Garlic Mushrooms & Cheddar is particularly enticing!

CSons, Milk Street

Four brothers set up this wonderful restaurant in Milk Street, with its huge glass front and cool hipster interior. It is committed to using produce from local growers and producers and fayre here is out of the ordinary – they aim to be different and the vegetarian offerings are often globally inspired.

Dinner is served on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Friday sees the popular #MysteryMenu served up, offering five courses of delicious food for £27.50, but you won’t know what you are eating until you get there! Vegetarians are amply catered for but do let them know numbers in advance if you are booking the MysteryMenu – dishes might include the likes of beetroot and radicchio quinoa salad with preserved lemons and wild garlic pesto – or a roast swede and lentil salad with hummus and salsa verde.

The Peach Tree, Abbey Foregate

A special vegan menu on offer here, with all manner of light bites (Egyptian Dukkha spiced hummus) and some enticing middle-eastern inspired mains, such as Moroccan hassleback squash, or Baharat spiced vegan halloumi, makes for some edgy dishes, beyond the norm. We like ‘fire cracker’ fried rice with savoury greens, crispy chilli and garlic and peanuts – it’s comfort eating, vegetarian-style.

There are veggie and a vegan English breakfasts on offer here too and other wonderfully veggie brunch options such as a delicious eggy bread sourdough, with avocado and grilled tomato.

With its mullion windows, beamed interior and plush fabrics, it’s a gorgeous place for a gastronomic get-together and there’s Momo next door too – a ramen bar with oodles of vegetarian options.

Taste of Shrewsbury, Mardol

From Taco super salads to brie & cranberry tortilla with spicy carrot chutney, homemade soups and vegan mozzarella and mushroom scones – all with a gorgeous wood-panelled upstairs room; this is a veggie hideaway to be proud of in town. This walk-in sandwich, juice bar and coffee shop offers takeaway or eat in service and has seating for 32 upstairs. It makes as much of the food on site and can also provide corporate finger buffets for businesses and private functions.

Open for breakfast, lunch, coffee and drinks.

Moli Tea House, The Market Hall

Delicious vegetarian dumplings are made on site here in this oriental eatery in Shrewsbury’s covered market. Moli is also open during the market’s late night events, offering innovative vegan mini platters with dumplings including: spicy sweet potato & coriander, mushroom & kale and five spice pumpkin & ginger. Team them up with some cucumber, toasted sesame & garlic salad or Kim chi pickled vegetables and a cup of Moli’s finest jasmine & rose flower tea and you are ready to rock and roll. You can also book a dumpling workshop and find out how to make them yourself!
