The Future of The Biotech Industry Talk


A lecture from UCL Professor Mark Carver for the Department of Medical Science at University Centre Shrewsbury.  Introduced by Dr Elizabeth O’Brien Programme Lead Medical Genetics Medical Science at UCS.  This event is open to members of the public with an interest in this area.

A professor at University College London (UCL) Department of Biochemical Engineering, Mark Carver is a senior and highly respected figure in the UK bioindustry sector. He has had a distinguished career in the biopharmaceutical industry. He was Chief Scientific Officer and Quality Director of Avecia Biologics and subsequently MSD Biologics (2007-2010) establishing one of the UK’s few FDA licensed manufacturing facilities for biologic medicines. He was Senior Vice-President Research, Development and Innovation for Fujifilm Diosynth Biotechnologies from 2011 until his retirement from industry in 2016, when he joined the staff at UCL.   Throughout his career Mark he has been heavily involved with the UK Research Councils helping establish and run the BBSRC/EPSRC Bioprocess Research Industry Club. He is currently a member of the BBSRC Strategic Advisory Panel on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioenergy and has recently become Chair of the UK BioIndustry Association Science and Innovation Advisory Committee.
