From June 1st to August 31st, impressive sculptures by two of Britain's leading female artists will be on display in three locations around Shrewsbury's town centre as part of the fourth Shrewsbury Arts Trail.

Now in its fourth year, the Shrewsbury Arts Trail continues to grow in scope and ambition, with even more venues, organisations, workshops and events involved this year than ever.

Read on for a guide to this year's Sculpture Trail and explore this open-air exhibition from now until the end of August.

Start your trail with Memento Mori, by Halimah Cassell, installed at Shrewsbury Castle. This pair of solid cast iron sculptures glows in the sunlight and casts magnificent shadows throughout the day.

Next, make your way to St Mary's Church to take in Cassell's second work on the sculpture trail, Hurricane, an imposing work in hand carved fibreglass and jesmonite.

Finally, take a leisurely walk to the Quarry park and enter the Dingle, a sunken garden vibrant with summer flowers, to view Redhead Sunset Stack by Almuth Tebbenhoff, an impressive modern art installation rising over the waters of the Dingle's pond, surrounded by the chatter of ducks and moorhens.

Driven by their passion for art and the desire to make art accessible to a larger community while at the same time promoting the work of local artists, the small but dedicated Arts Trail team, led by founder Jess Richards, have selected ‘Time’ as the theme for this year’s trail.

Other features of this year’s trail include a large-scale community project to create a stunning installation, workshops, demonstrations, talks and a children's’ treasure trail with prizes kindly donated by local businesses.

Throughout July and August, local artists' work will be displayed at participating venues around the town.
