Shrewsbury is joining the Great Big Art Exhibition

Shrewsbury is taking part in The Great Big Art Exhibition, a national project encouraging people to create works of art to display in their windows, balconies or front gardens. Shrewsbury is joining in and asking all children under the age of 16 to submit their artwork with the chance of it being printed on a flag in Shrewsbury town centre.

The theme of ‘Animals’ was chosen by ionic sculptor Sir Anthony Gormley, creator of the Angel of the North, who launched The Great Big Art Exhibition in late January, saying “I am delighted to hear that Shrewsbury is on board with The Great Big Art Exhibition and am looking forward to seeing the results. What a great idea to display the results on flags! I am sure Charles Darwin would have been in favour of anything that champions original thinking and the natural world.”

This summer 70 flags will be proudly flying above Shrewsbury’s High Street, decorated with the animal-themed illustrations of the town’s children.

All submissions need to be A4 size and portrait orientation, we also ask that they be as eye-catching and colourful as possible. The artwork can be dropped off in the collection box in the Darwin Shopping Centre between Claire's Accessories and Card Factory or posted to 'FAO Shrewsbury BID, Windsor House, Windsor Place, Shrewsbury, SY1 2BY'. Submissions close March 19th 2021.

The projects is led by Colchester art gallery Firstsite and supported by Arts Council England and the Plus Tate Network of leading museums and galleries across the UK.
