Heritage Open Days - Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings

Our Visitor Centre will be open, as well as the Dye House which will host some displays and interpretation information and a special showcase art exhibition from the New Wave project.

Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings is currently undergoing a huge National Lottery funded renovation, which means that much of the site is not available to us this year. As such we're not able to offer our usual tours of the site, or the range of entertainments as in past years. We will have access to the Visitor centre which will be staffed by our well informed and welcoming volunteers. We will also have access to the Dye House, a large, light and airy building which was erected in the 1850s.

In the Dye House there will be a showcase of anime / manga artworks produced as part of the Heritage Open Days New Wave project, an initiative designed to help to engage young people with heritage.

We are also planning a local, interactive mystery trail involving the lost pubs in the vicinity of the Mill. This is still in the planning stages, so for more information please visit our website and sign up for our newsletter.

This event is part of New Wave, a series of innovative, dynamic, youth-led events being produced for this year’s Heritage Open Days festival. New Wave is a project by Heritage Open Days, which is coordinated nationally by the National Trust and supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery. You can find out more here.
