Heritage Open Days - Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery

On Sunday 10 September, visitors to Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery will be able to enter the galleries FREE of charge and take in over 750 years of history across Shrewsbury and Shropshire.

Throughout the Roman, Shropshire, Medieval, Tudor and Stuart Galleries, visitors can experience the natural, human and geological history that has shaped our county for centuries. From the mammoth bones found in Condover, Shropshire to the Roman tombstones and 16 Treasure20 treasures to be found within the Museum, visitors can appreciate some of the most breath-taking exhibits in Shropshire.

There are also three special exhibitions at Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery to which your FREE entry grants you access.
- Take in the wonders of Antarctica: Life in a hostile land and take in original Shackleton and Captain Scott mementos, Antarctic film footage and 360 degree virtual reality at the Halley VI research station.

- Synthetic Landscapes which shows the work of upcoming artist David Bethell and hosts a painting of the English Bridge in Shrewsbury by one of the UK's best loved painters, J.M.W. Turner, (c. 1831).

- LGBT: Outing the past is a rallying cry to the LGBT community to help preserve the objects that tell the stories that have often been airbrushed out of history.
