About this event
For centuries there have been civic buildings in Shrewsbury tasked with administering the county of Shropshire. From the castle in the Norman period, through medieval guildhalls and Georgian, 19th century and modern Shirehalls taxes have been raised, justice, or what passed for it, meted out and amongst many other activities education and health care dispensed.
A new exhibition in the Collecting Gallery at Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery tells the fascinating story of the buildings of local government through the centuries using images, film, and museum objects. The exhibition, a collaboration between Shrewsbury Civic Society and Shropshire Museums, also focuses on the responses of artists to the Shirehall, Abbey Foregate.
Using watercolours, acrylics, photographs, pen and ink, drone footage and marmite (yes really!), artists have responded in a myriad of ways to the dilemma posed by the uncertain future of the vacated building.
All Day Event: Exhibition Admission to the museum is free and donations are welcome to support the museums work.
