About this event
Alex Flower is a freelance organist and teacher based in London. He is the Organist at St. George’s Cathedral Southwark, where he plays for the weekly schedule of services, and works with the children’s choirs and professional lay clerks. He is also a keen music teacher, working at St Paul’s School, King’s College School Wimbledon and Dulwich College as organ teacher, and is always proud to be introducing the organ to more young people. He is a prizewinning Fellow of the Royal College of Organists, and regularly appears around London as a freelance soloist, accompanist and continuo player.
Teenage organ studies in Gosport, Hampshire under Geoffrey Holroyde led Alex to hold the organ scholarship at Worcester College, Oxford University. He graduated with a First Class BA in Music and played for various services, concerts and album recordings, studying organ with William Whitehead. Subsequently, he held positions at two London churches, St Mary’s Bourne Street and St Cyprian’s Clarence Gate, before starting at St George’s Cathedral. Alex is also a keen saxophonist, having recently graduated with Distinction and prizes from the Guildhall School of Music’s MMus jazz performance course. Occasionally, he is allowed to play some saxophone alongside the choir of St George’s Cathedral, and he enjoys dabbling with jazz organ when no-one is listening!
