Sitting at the bottom of Pride Hill, you’ll find Shoplatch, Mardol Head and Claremont Street, home to an eclectic mix of shops and cafes, as well as Shrewsbury’s award-winning market hall.
Overlooking the area is Darwin's Gate, a contemporary sculpture that makes use of the parallax phenomenon. When viewed from afar, the sculptures appear as a single structure; the combined the forms of a Saxon helmet and a Norman window. Artists Renn & Thacker were inspired by the features of nearby St Mary’s Church. Pictured below.
In Shoplatch and the surrounding streets you can while away the hours exploring an exciting mix of national and independent retailers, out of the ordinary eateries, and health and beauty specialists.
Shoplatch is also home to Shrewsbury’s award-winning Market Hall. Open every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday & Saturday, the Market Hall is a haven for small independents; cosmopolitan cafes and artisan producers sit side by side with traditional butchers and grocers, barbers, boutiques and more.
