Albert's Shed

A Shrewbury Original since

Shrewsbury's Premier Live Music Venue. Nestled in the heart of Shrewsbury opposite historic Rowleys House a quirky old gent by the name of Albert sat in his Shed and feeling a little lost pondered what to do with his night times.

Whilst scratching his chin he noticed a gap in the market… Albert had travelled the world far and wide and he had noticed old warehouses turned into bars, he loved the live music he had seen along the way and, with this in mind, he created the concept of Albert’s Shed.

With all the ideas snapped on his Polaroid camera whilst on his travels, he decided what could be better than a town centre location, live music and entertainment every night of the week, combined with a wide range of real ales, craft beers, wines and spirits. The Shed would be somewhere that appealed to a huge range of ages and backgrounds, not as cheap (or nasty) as a big chain bar, but not pretentious or over-priced like a ‘hipster-haunt’. Somewhere to go to watch live sport in an afternoon (all the major sports channels available) and happen to spot a band carting their gear in and setting up on stage. Phone calls made to friends and gradually the group becomes bigger and the excitement builds.

An evening spent enjoying quality live music and before you know it you’ve spent hours and hours in the Shed when you only popped in to catch the game. Albert had seen a big movement in the live music scene over the years and many places had touched on it, but Albert wanted more, he wanted something less formal, he wanted to go out any night of the week in his hometown of Shrewsbury and have a beer, enjoy live music, kick his slippers and flat cap off and dance! A potty idea to some but every night of the week his Shed is rocking.

Since Albert opened the doors to his Shed for the first time in March 2017, he has welcomed over 500 musicians to play on his stage, not to mention all the comedians and karaoke stars that have also had their taste of the limelight, truly amazing!

Monday night is when laughter can be heard bouncing off the wooden walls of the shed as #AlbertLovesLaughs New Material Comedy Night brings together newcomers to the comedy circuit and experienced performers trying out new material, with unpredictable and usually hilarious results.

Tuesday is Albert’s favourite night of the week when he welcomes musicians from all over the shire (and sometimes beyond) to play at #AlbertLovesLive Jam Night. The evening begins with open mic slots and gradually becomes one big jam session with players jumping on stage and joining in when they feel the urge. A house band, drum kit and full PA sets Albert’s night apart from the many imitators in the town.

Wednesday brings #AlbertsMidweekMusic and some of the finest acoustic performers (and the occasional full band) around. A genuine alternative to mind-numbing recorded music, cheap low-quality drinks, and cheap low-quality atmosphere.

Thursday is Albert’s night off and while he’s away his mischievous Shed team manage to secretly host #AlbertHatesKaraoke karaoke night every week. They know they really shouldn’t do it, but they also know karaoke is many people’s guilty pleasure. There’s nothing quite like getting on the Shed stage, literally in the spotlight and belting out an epic number.

Friday is the start of the weekend and Albert believes that deserves more than the usual one man and his guitar affair stuck in the corner of a bar. Only a full band will do and so Albert presents #BigBandFriday to get the weekend started right. Albert never disappoints on the biggest night of the week and #BigBandSaturday guarantees to bring the biggest live bands to the Shed. If you’re not singing along and dancing, then you probably need to check your pulse.

Albert likes to chill on Sundays so #AlbertsSundaySession delivers the finest acoustic acts to wind up the week in typical Shed style. And if you’re not ready to call it a night, let alone a week, then the Shed is open until late for those who party even on a school night. With special offers for those working in hospitality, the Shed is the preferred destination for those who work when most are partying. And as if Albert’s Shed is not enough, Albert recently opened Albert’s Loft upstairs in the Shed where, at weekends, fantastic cocktails and a huge range of often exclusive craft beers can be enjoyed, with a wonderful balcony overlooking the town, most definitely the place to see and be seen. The Loft is available for private hire during the week and makes a perfect venue for a works Christmas party or any other kind of celebration. Buffets and drinks packages available and even the option of live music.

When the shed first opened its doors, no one could have predicted the success that would follow, with a concept that cannot easily be recreated in a prime location in the centre of Shrewsbury, where one walks through the Shed doors into an eclectic mix of old car parts, bus-fronted tables, tractor-front bars and all manner of other weird and wonderful junk Albert has hoarded over the years. Albert has created an energy and vibe that the town has never seen before.
