Shropshire Archives
Castle Gates, Shrewsbury, SY1 2AQ
Information
Shropshire Archives is the archives and local studies service for the historic county of Shropshire, which includes the Borough of Telford and Wrekin.
A dedicated team of staff and volunteers work to preserve and make accessible documents, books, maps, photographs, plans and drawings relating to Shropshire's past and present. With 5 ½ miles of shelving holding local material from 12th-century charters right up to yesterday's Shropshire Star, there is a treasure trove of content to explore.
The Archives also provide a service for schools as well as an outreach and events programme. Shropshire Archives is funded by the Shropshire Council and the Borough of Telford and Wrekin and supported by the Friends of Shropshire Archives.
Shropshire Archives is free to visit but it is worth making an appointment to guarantee your space and you will need to bring identification to register in order to view some items. Check the website for more details and for current opening times or email the staff with specific queries.
