Shropshire myth and magic

About this event

Step into the past with Dr Natasha Harlow for an evening of engaging historical insight and expert research into Iron Age life in Shropshire.

Magical and medicinal practices might seem separate categories to us today, but in prehistory and the Roman period, people often appealed to the gods and other supernatural forces for help with physical and spiritual ailments.

This talk examines the remains of such practices encountered by archaeologists – such as surgical implements, curse tablets, amulets and other votive objects.

About the Speaker

Natasha is a freelance archaeologist and educator who has worked in museums, schools and on archaeological sites for 25 years.

She recently published her first book, based on her PHD at the University of Nottingham, researching Iron Age and Roman artefacts.

Natasha currently works on British prehistory and the Iron Age to Roman transition. She is passionate about history and delivers a fascinating insight into how people lived in the distant past.

Tickets include the talk and a glass of mulled wine or mulled apple juice and cost £10 per person.
