About this event

Discover how some of the earliest metal tools were produced in prehistoric Britain, with archaeological metalworker Rowan Taylor AWCB. Using a bellows-driven furnace, you will melt copper in order to cast an axe in a carved stone mould. You will then be guided through the process of hardening the copper axe, and then carve and prepare a wooden handle for it from a piece of crook wood, before fitting the axe to the haft using leather and tar. At the end of the weekend, you will go home with a fully usable copper axe, similar to that of Otzi the Iceman.

2 day course
Suitable for ages 18+
