Painting Portraits – Friday 1 May 2026
Children will visit our gallery of portraits and look at how different artists have approached portraiture through time. They will learn how to draw a face in proportion, colour mixing techniques and experiment with different ways to apply paint to create their own portrait to take home.
Investigating Evolution – Friday 5 June 2026
How can we find evidence of evolution? This exciting workshop takes childrens’ scientific thinking to a much deeper level. Children will be looking for evidence of evolution by handling and observing real artefacts from the museum’s collections. They will be prompted to draw and record their ideas and to think about their discoveries.
Vikings – Friday 3 July 2026
What do we know about the Vikings? What is myth and what were the facts? This workshop enables children to learn about Viking Britain between 793AD and 1066AD. Uncovering what the Vikings have left behind, children will investigate and learn which materials survived in the ground and which have rotted away. Reimagining Viking scenes, they will learn about daily lives, religion and much more.
