Ready to start your sewing journey? Our Introduction to the Sewing Machine Class is the perfect starting point for beginners or anyone looking to refresh their skills. This hands-on class will teach you the fundamentals of using a sewing machine with confidence and ease.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Getting to Know Your Machine: Understanding parts, functions, and basic maintenance.
  • Threading and Bobbin Basics: Mastering the setup process to get started smoothly.
  • Essential Stitch Techniques: Straight stitches, zig-zag stitches, and adjusting stitch settings.
  • Fabric Handling: Tips for cutting, pinning, and feeding fabric through the machine.
  • Simple Project Practice: Apply your new skills to create a beginner-friendly project.

By the end of this class, you’ll be ready to take on your first sewing projects and develop a solid foundation for future creativity. Bring your enthusiasm—we’ll supply the inspiration!

You will make a set of samples to take home, to remind you of the steps you have learnt. Using the skills you have mastered you will make a lovely little fabric bowl to take home.

Skill level : No sewing machine skills required.

What to bring:

  • ½ metre of Calico
  • 1 x cream sewing thread

For the project:

  • 30cm of 2oz wadding/batting
  • 2 x (12”x12”) co-ordinating patterned cotton fabrics or 2 x Fat Quarters (non directional)
  • 4 x small buttons
  • 1 x matching sewing thread

Janome sewing machines will be provided on the day along with a hot drink. You will also receive a 10% discount card to use in-store.
