Rehearsal for Murder at Theatre Severn

Star casting revealed for Murder mystery

Theatre Severn have announced this week a star line up for their latest large-scale production ‘Rehearsal for Murder’. Appearing at the venue in June the riveting murder mystery promises to keep audiences on the edge of their seats and the cast includes soap stars, sixties icons, and even a star of the Carry On films.

Written by Richard Levinson and William Link (the creators of ‘Murder She Wrote’ and ‘Columbo’) Rehearsal for Murder is a classic who-dunnit. On the anniversary of his fiancée’s death, a young playwright gathers a group of actors together read through a new play. Echoing real life events it emerges the fictitious plays real purpose is not to entertain but to uncover a murderer.

The Classic Thriller Theatre Company (who previously appeared at the Shropshire venue as The Agatha Christie Theatre Company) have today announced casting for the next leg of the hit UK tour.

Leading the cast are TV favourites Alex Ferns and Susie Amy. Alex won notoriety by becoming ‘Britain’s most hated soap villain’ in the popular soap EastEnders terrorising ‘little Mo’, and has recently also recently starred in the blockbuster film ‘Legend’. Susie is best known for her roles in Footballers Wives’ and ‘Echo Beach’. She also took on the lead role in the miniseries ‘La Femme Musketeer’ alongside Gerard Depardieu.

Joining them on stage will be sixties legends Anita Harris and Mark Wynter. Anita Harris has had a varied career, she’s performed for Frank Sinatra, starred in the musical ‘Cats’, topped the charts on her own and as part of the Cliff Adams Singers, and also appeared in two Carry On films. Mark enjoyed nine top 20 singles in his career (including ‘Venus in Blue Jeans’), and although there is no singing required in this production, Mark also has an acting career spanning almost fifty years, including performances in Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet and The Phantom of the Opera.

Also joining the cast are Gary Mavers (Peak Practice, Emmerdale), Ben Nealon (Soldier Soldier), Gwynfor Jones (Being Human), with Holby City’s Lauren Drummond completing the line-up.

Venue spokesman Pip Bayley said ‘We are really looking forward to welcoming Rehearsal for Murder to the venue this June. The cast are amazing and the company have a brilliant reputation. Murder mysteries are always very popular with Shropshire audiences and with the announcement of the cast we are expecting tickets to sell fast’

Rehearsal for Murder will be at Theatre Severn from Monday 27th June until Saturday 2nd July. Tickets are available via the Theatre Severn website or by contacting the Box Office on 01743 281 281.
