Shrewsbury High School

About

A Shrewbury Original since
1885

Shrewsbury High School is a vibrant, independent day school, situated in the heart of Shrewsbury, on the banks of the river Severn, educating girls from 3 – 18 and boys from 3 - 13.

At Shrewsbury High School (SHS) we place our pupils at the heart of everything we do and with fewer than 600 pupils we can truly say that we know every child. Individuals matter at SHS. Each pupil is supported and challenged to aim high within the safety of our collaborative and close knit community. We encourage our pupils to be curious, adventurous and kind. We want them to develop self-respect and respect for others. We value strong relationships with our parents, local community and alumnae.

We believe that your child’s time at school should be an adventure. We will help them to discover their passions, develop confidence in their own ability and teach them self-awareness. We have a dedicated and talented team of staff who provide a remarkable environment in which to learn. They encourage each pupil to do their best, be creative, to meet challenges head on and develop the skills to cope with setbacks. We believe that school should be somewhere that your child feels happy, valued and safe to take risks with their learning and, above all, it should be somewhere they can have fun as they grow up.

At Prep level we offer coeducation on our wonderful 14 acre site with state of the art facilities, playing fields and our own woodland. Our goal is to nurture every child’s potential through an innovative and creative curriculum both in and beyond the classroom, underpinned by expert pastoral care.

At Senior level we offer girls' only education because, as part of the Girls' Day School Trust, we believe it offers the best environment for girls to excel. Our girls are at the heart of everything we do. At this crucial stage in their development we understand that they learn differently from boys and we are experts in understanding their pastoral needs. We seek to foster intellectual risk taking and build resilience so that our girls will develop into self-confident, forward thinking young women ready to make a difference to the world in which they live.

A Shrewsbury Original

Shrewsbury High School is one of the most successful and highly regarded independent schools in the country, but its all-round excellence is what the school is really proud of.

Founded in 1885 by the Girls’ Day School Trust, the school’s Senior School has been positioned prominently on Town Walls in Shrewsbury, the County town of Shropshire, for over 100 years and is currently enjoying further high levels of investment.

With Shrewsbury High Prep School situated just a few minutes’ walk away on Roman Road, all pupils, from 3 -18 benefit from the outstanding facilities and specialist staff on hand.

With small class sizes, excellent facilities and the highest standards of pastoral care, Shrewsbury High School is a friendly and stimulating environment where all pupils have the opportunity to reach their full potential. It was the first school in the County to win an Independent School Award in 2014 for its sporting outreach work and has been nominated again this year in the same awards for its innovative Lego Robotics programme. In 2015 the School was delighted to win the Sports Award at the Education Business Awards.
