COVID-19: Advice when visiting Shrewsbury

The COVID-19 situation continues to evolve at a rapid pace, and the Original Shrewsbury team continues to monitor the situation closely. 

In line with government advice, many of Shrewsbury’s attractions and businesses are either closing temporarily or reducing their operations. As always, the health and wellbeing of our local businesses, residents and visitors are our number one priority. 

If you’re unable to get out of the house, many of Shrewsbury’s businesses offer online shopping and delivery. We will soon be launching an online e-commerce site which will allow business across the town to sell gift cards during this period of social distancing. 

Many of Shrewsbury's eateries continue to serve mouth-watering food, available for collection as well as via in-house and third-party delivery. Click here for a list of serving eateries.

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Shropshire Council is providing free parking in all of its car parks until further notice. This is to alleviate the pressure on NHS staff, volunteers, social care staff and other key workers. Click here for more information.

Shrewsbury's Park and Ride services have now been suspended, the vehicles have been deployed to provide free transport between Shrewsbury and Telford hospitals for hospital staff. Click here for more information.

From Monday March 23rd Arriva will be running a reduced timetable, please click here for a summary of changes.

Shrewsbury LibraryShrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery, Visitor Information CentreShrewsbury Castle and Regimental MuseumQuarry Swimming & Fitness Centre and Shrewsbury Prison are now closed until further notice.

The Friends of the Flaxmill Maltings has closed until the end of May, all public tours and events have been cancelled. 

Shrewsbury’s Theatre Severn and OMH have closed until further notice. If you’re a ticketholder, please their website for more information. They are currently processing tickets from March 17th to March 29th as a priority and ask those booked in for events after March to please contact them at a later date. 

Shrewsbury’s Cineworld has closed until further notice. They will continue to monitor the situation and follow the government’s guidelines, please see their website for more details.

Shrewsbury's monthly Made in Shropshire Market and Shrewsbury Farmers Market are both cancelled until further notice.

Unfortunately, many of the events due to take place across Shrewsbury this spring and summer are now being postponed and cancelled. Shrewsbury looks forward to welcoming these much-beloved events back later in the year and 2021. Follow this link for a continually updated list.

Essential businesses remaining open

A number of Shrewsbury's essential businesses and services remain open to allow use by the general public. You can find a collation of some of the businesses below, others that remain open include Da Da Thai Oriental, Heron Foods, Meat Shack, Rob Buckley CyclesRosie's Emporium and The Allotment.

Shrewsbury Market Hall remains open for the purchase of fresh food. A number of their traders are also offering home delivery services, please see the Market Hall's Facebook page for updates.

Shrewsbury's Pride Hill, Charles Darwin and Riverside shopping centres remain open to allow access to essential businesses and services. However, for the health and safety of customers and the workers the decision has been made to close some of the entrances and reduce trading hours, you can read more here.
