Alisha aiming high after regional win

A young Shropshire hairdresser has won her way through the national finals of a competition.

Alisha Edmunds (18), who works at the Toni & Guy salon in Castle Street, Shrewsbury, beat off entrants from across central England to gain her place at the grand London final of the ‘Assistant of the Year’ contest.

This is the first time that Alisha, who lives in Nesscliffe and has been with the salon for 18 months, has entered the midlands heats of the prestigious event.

Young hairdressers from as far afield at Nottingham, Derby, Hereford and Birmingham got through to the regional round. However, Alisha’ entry clinched her trip to London.

“She commented: "It feels great to have won - I wasn’t expecting to be placed first as the competition was so strong.

“The salon team here in Shrewsbury have been brilliant, especially our training manager Lauren Foskett who spends so much time in London working with the national Toni & Guy art team and at London Fashion Week so this was a real advantage.”

Alisha will be travelling to the capital in September in an attempt to lift the national title and salon manager Lauren wished her luck.

She said: "The annual Toni & Guy assistants competition is one of the highlights of our year and we often produce winners.

“We are obsessed with nurturing young talent and our continued success goes to prove what incredibly skilled young hairdressers we have here and is a tribute to the strength of our training team working with these young people.

“The assistants event is a fantastic opportunity for our trainees to shine, enabling them to showcase their work, and it gives us the opportunity to discover the creative talents within Toni & Guy.”
