Get Your Wigle On's Legally Blonde opens at Theatre Severn

So much fun it shouldn’t be legal! This week see Broadway and West End sensation Legally Blonde the Musical take to the Theatre Severn stage. Based on the Hollywood smash-hit starring Reese Witherspoon as leading lady Elle Woods, the musical is arriving in Shropshire for the first time and opens on Wednesday 15th June.

The musical follows Sorority Sister Elle from the UCLA College Campus to the hallowed halls of Harvard Law School with one goal in mind, to get her boyfriend back. Along the way she discovers staying true to yourself never goes out of style in a hilarious musical comedy full of love, friendship, determination and a whole lot of fun.

Winner of Best New Musical at the Olivier Awards, Legally Blonde is being performed by sell out Shropshire Musical Theatre Company Get Your Wigle On, no strangers to the Shrewsbury stage following fantastic reviews in recent performances of Grease, Ghost, 9 to 5 the Musical, Footloose and more.

The local cast are joined by a live orchestra as they bring the heart-warming and hilarious story to life with professional scenery and costumes and original up-tempo choreography. But it’s not just two-legged performers on stage this week, four Shropshire dogs also get their time to shine as they take on the roles of Bruiser, Elle’s Chihuahua, and Rufus- her hairdresser’s dog too.

Stepping into the spotlight in the iconic role of Bruiser includes Chihuahua ‘Boo’ who has enjoyed rehearsing in the Get Your Wigle On studio with all the cast. Rhian Ellis, who is playing leading lady Elle Woods says “as soon as we were first introduced to Boo we knew she’d fit in well with our cast and not be afraid to perform to our audiences at all!  She’s a confident character and will be sure to melt the hearts of dog lovers in the audiences as she joins us on our journey to Harvard. It’s really important to bring to life the magical moments of the movie and Bruiser is a very recognisable character in the world of Hollywood dogs!”

Whilst the musical may be well and truly painting Shrewsbury pink, the male members of the audience should not assume this is simply one show “for the girls.” It’s a hilarious musical with plenty of comedic moments and is a tale of faith, love, and pushing past stereotypes.  It’s an upbeat and fun night out not to be missed by theatregoers and fans of stage and screen alike.

Tickets are available from the Theatre Severn Box Office on 01743 281281 or online from just £12.50, and the show runs from Wednesday 15th – Saturday 18th June with performances nightly at 7.30pm and an additional matinee at 2.30pm on Saturday.

A not-to-be-missed night of fun that’ll leave you singing omigod
