Celebrate Mother's Day in Shrewsbury

Whoever you're celebrating this Mothering Sunday, you’re sure to find an indulgent treat guaranteed to impress from these Shrewsbury businesses.
Swans on the severn

She deserves the best - and fortunately, the best is found right here in Shrewsbury.

Whether you're planning a full day out or a relaxed afternoon together, our town centre has everything you need to make this Mothering Sunday one she'll actually remember. Think beautiful old buildings, independent boutiques, indulgent afternoon tea, spring flowers along the river, and a well-earned cocktail or glass of wine to finish. Here's how to do it right.

Afternoon tea shrewsbury

A classic afternoon tea

Few things say I really thought about this quite like a proper afternoon tea. Shrewsbury has some genuinely lovely spots to settle in for a couple of hours - think freshly baked cakes, sandwiches, and a pot of something good, all served in the kind of atmospheric surroundings our town does so well.

Browse indie boutiques

Shrewsbury's town centre is one of the best places in the country for independent shopping, and Mother's Day is the perfect excuse to take your time and explore. From jewellery and homewares to artisan gifts and fashion, you'll find something as individual as she is - things you simply can't find on your average high street.

Tucked-away lanes, tim: that's the point.

The quarry 1

A gentle walk in the Quarry

If the weather's kind (and in late March, it might be), a walk along the River Severn is one of the loveliest things you can do in Shrewsbury. The spring flowers are out, the riverside path is flat and easy - making it a great choice for all abilities - and the views of the town from the water are genuinely hard to beat.

The Quarry Park sits right on the riverbank and is one of the finest town centre parks in England. A gentle loop through the park and along the Severn is a simple pleasure that costs nothing and feels like everything.

End with a cocktail or a glass of wine (or gin, or whisky, or whatever's on tap!)

Because no perfect day is complete without a proper toast. Shrewsbury has a brilliant selection of pubs and bars where you can raise a glass in style - whether that's a thoughtfully made cocktail, a carefully chosen wine, or simply a cold drink in a beautiful building.
