New Shrewsbury BID film goes live today

An exciting new polaroid style video production inspired by some of Shrewsbury's well-known artisans and independent retailers will launch today in time for the Bank Holiday Weekend. Commissioned by Shrewsbury BID , 'Meet Shrewsbury: The characters, the faces, the places' is a series of fast-paced photographs showing local businesses, their owners and staff, juxtaposed with memorable images of the town centre and its historic shop fronts and architecture.

Shrewsbury to remain open for business during essential road closures

Shoplatch in Shrewsbury will be closed to traffic on two Sundays next month to allow essential drainage and gas works for Mardol House in Shrewsbury to be carried out. The road will be closed on Sunday 7 June 2015 and again on Sunday 14 June 2015, in both instances from 8am Sunday morning to 6am the following day, Monday morning. During the closure through traffic will be diverted via the Town Walls and Claremont Bank route.

Eat Street preparation underway for Friday

With the Bank Holiday Weekend on our doorstep, preparation is underway for Shrewsbury's first ever Street Food Event launched by Shropshire's favourite celebrity chef Marcus Bean. Marcus was joined by Brian from Eat Up , Ian from Barkworths Seafoods, Duncan and Nok from Nok's Gril Thai BBQ to fine-tune last minute preparations for the big event on Friday.

Primark to open new store in Shrewsbury

Primark, the international fashion retailer, has let a 30,300 sq ft store over two levels at the Charles Darwin Shopping Centre. The store, which is Primark's first in Shrewsbury, is a reconfiguration of nine existing units. The £12 million investment programme, by commercial property investment company UKCPT, will see a comprehensive fit-out undertaken to create a modern new shopping environment, as well as a transformation of the shopping centre's public areas with new floors, ceilings and lighting.

£1 Sunday car parking secured for Shrewsbury

Shrewsbury BID has delivered on its pledge to improve car parking and access in Shrewsbury town centre after securing a flat rate of £1 for Sunday car parking in long stay public and private car parks. The new measures, which will launch on 7th June, will deliver a simpler, cheaper deal for visitors and help boost the high street and leisure sector.

New mayor of Shrewsbury takes office

Shrewsbury has elected its new Mayor for the coming year, Councillor Miles Kenny. Councillor Kenny officially took office at the annual meeting of Shrewsbury Town Council last night.

The mayor-making ceremony, which was held at Theatre Severn , saw Councillor Kenny take over the role of civic leader from outgoing Mayor, Councillor Beverley Baker. His wife, Aurona, will support him as Mayoress.

A special beacon will be lit in Shrewsbury tomorrow to honour of the 70th anniversary of VE day. More than 200 beacons across the country are set to be lit at 9.32pm throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands and Isle of Man, following the lighting of the Principal Beacon outside Windsor Castle by Her Majesty The Queen.

Celebrity chef launches Shrewsbury first street food feast

Shrewsbury's first Street Food Event is being launched by Shropshire's favourite celebrity chef Marcus Bean in a bid to bring the latest street food personalities and produce to the medieval town.
