Shrewsbury Artist runs Calligraphy Workshop

Local artist Daisy Pooley-Tolkien will be running a Modern Calligraphy workshop in Shrewsbury on Saturday, July 7th at High Street pen shop Write Here.

Daisy, who attended the Shrewsbury School of Art, is coming back to Shrewsbury after completing her degree in Fine Art at Falmouth University.  She says:

“In this increasingly digital world, people are returning to the hand-written word way of expressing themselves.  Calligraphy can convey the meaning in a powerful way, and the process of creating it can be relaxing, fun and a relief from the stresses and strains of everyday life.  Although using the skills and techniques of traditional calligraphy, modern calligraphy offers a more fluid and unbounded approach to self-expression through the written word”.

The course is for absolute beginners or those wishing to improve their skills.  All materials for the course are provided.

The event is being supported by the Manuscript Pen Company of Highley in Shropshire.  They are the leading manufacturers of calligraphy materials in the UK, with a world-wide reputation, and have heritage stretching back to the 19th Century.

Note for editors:
