An introduction from the power duo curating Restaurant Week 2025 - Steve and Saskia Guy
Hi everyone! I'm Steve, you might know me as The Hungry Guy, or you might not know me at all! I am a chef, but really I describe myself as an eater first and foremost! The food and drink world is literally all I breathe. It's my job, it's my hobby and it's my entire life! I won't bore you too much with where I’ve been and what I’ve done, but I’ve had a bit of a mad ride of a career in the food world. From a head chef to Jamie Oliver in London, to designing food retail products for all the major supermarkets and now as a Community Chef in Shropshire - I’ve seen most of what might and/or can happen in the world of hospitality!
I moved to Shrewsbury about 6 years ago when I met my now wife (and best friend), Saskia. It took all of about 20 minutes for me to fall in love with this town. It's my forever place and I am so excited about bringing up my kids in and amongst its vibrant, fiercely independent and super cool vibes! This town is where I found my place, it's where I found my future, it's where I found my calling, I am forever indebted to it! I adore working in the community and my mission is simple - it's all about ‘food in mouths and smiles on faces!’ I just hope to inspire people to love food a little more and to connect with people over it.
Saskia here! Serial charity shop and car boot addict, eater, wine & coffee drinker, mum, business owner and also Mrs Hungry Guy! I have been working in the hospitality and the arts world for over 20 years now! Starting as most of us did, at the grass roots as a waitress at 13 (I only really did it for the tips and the free cheese toasties), to general managing pubs and bars, to then transferring over to the arts world and becoming a freelance teacher, performer, artist and to then launching a Creative arts theatre & education company and consultancy business!
I now work freelance as a creative consultant and presenter working with a variety of business owners and companies on their marketing, social media, consultancy and brand identity and MUCH more! A Shropshire girl born and bred, I moved to Shrewsbury 9 years ago from just down the road, and after meeting Steve he came to join me and my daughter 6ish years ago and never left! SO you could say it was me that bought the Hungry Guy to the Shrew... sorry?! Since being together and as two huge food obsessives, we have created two more food obsessed daughters who don’t stop eating, drinking, meeting amazing people and building the incredible community we have here now! Curating Shrewsbury Restaurant Week feels like the perfect blend of every job I have and ever wanted. Centred around food, drink and incredible people - and I am buzzing to see it come to life very soon!
